big girl room

I have been waiting to post the pictures of her new room. until it was done.

Well, that may never actually happen (I move things around constantly) so, now is as good of a time as ever.

Let’s go back to January. I had a panic moment of “We will get a call about a new baby, we will pick up said baby. We will move Larkin to her new room, and she will think she has been demoted. She will think we kicked her out of the room right by ours, for the new baby. She will think we don’t love her as much as the new baby. She will cry every night, and the new baby will cry and I will never. sleep. again.”  It went something like that.
I think it’s called the second child syndrome.

I stayed up late at night on pinterest that week, pinning the things I was going to make for her new room. I begged Wade to get it painted. like right now. just in case

Almost every thing on the walls was homemade. (AKA: cheap but made with love)

I heart garland. (see what I did there?)

Wall of treasures.
Fabric, blank canvas, buttons, paint, vintage magazine covers, Liza’s art, crotchet hoops…

I spy Pete sleeping in the chair.

Larkin has been in her new big girl room for almost 4 months already. (guess my urgency was a little unmerited?)
With the exception of one weekend where she was deathly afraid of a shadow behind her crib… the transition to her new room has been flawless.
Someday we will try a big girl bed. But I will let her sleep in that crib as long as humanly possible. I like to know she is sleeping where I put her.

{tell the} TRUTH tuesday: our marriage story.

What do you know? It’s Tuesday again. I sincerely hope and pray that people are reading these stories. Because they are the best kind. {real life + God’s grace}

You all are in for a real treat today. Jami is a world famous blogger… right Jami? She is. I promise.
She is honest, and brave, and loves to share the gospel.
She is the wife of Mr. Nato, the mama of 3 little people, and shares God’s truth everyday on her blog.
I am excited to share with all of you a new video of Jami and her husband… about how God saved their marriage in the aftermath of an affair.
truthtuesday
our marriage story on film.

are you tired of hearing about our marriage? me either! ha.

sometimes i think, do people get sick of this stuff? but then i remember stories that we all tell over and over again about the miracles and redemption God has done in our lives.

we will not shut up about it.

it's probably how the isrealites felt when the crossed the red sea. it's probably how the blind man felt when his sight was restored. it's probably how those 500 felt when we they knew Jesus had died but them saw him raised from the dead. we read those stories over and over again in the bible and they just become more and more amazing.

so we will never stop talking about the miracle God did for us. we want to go around shaking people saying, God is real and He is alive and still working!
this video was made by our very good friends, erica and jeff, who happened to be uhhhh-mazing videographers. when i call them that, it sounds weird and cheesy. but when you see it, you'll agree that they've captured our story in an amazing way, using their talents to glorify Christ and tell what He has done. this video is something i consider and heirloom, i want the kids to watch it when they're older and i want them to let their kids watch it and their grandkids watch it.

we will not hide our sin or hide the miracle God has done in our family. in fact, if our kids see us as perfect, we have done a terrible job pointing them to the cross. Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. I came not to call the righteous, but sinners. mark 2:17

i want my kids to know that they are sick and we are sick and everyone is sick. i don't want them to hide in their sin. i pray they'll see that there is freedom in losing their name and reputation to make God's name and reputation big.

all that to say, God has been very kind to us. we are underserving to carry this story but we do, because God uses very broken people to tell His incredible story.

and P.S. i'm wearing a turtleneck in the video which made me laugh really hard.

{tell the} TRUTH tuesday: God’s Amazing Grace

I honestly can’t tell you how excited I am to be starting this new series. This is some GOOD stuff people… brace yourselves.

Today’s Guest Blogger is Colleen Tronson.
Colleen is the wife of Steve, mother of 3 grown sons.
She has been the director of the Metro Women's Center in Minneapolis, MN for 23 years, where Colleen actively works to educate the community about alternatives to abortion.
Colleen is the hands and feet of Jesus; mentoring women, and devoting her life to helping women who find themselves with an unplanned pregnancy.
this is her story….

truthtuesday

“Amazing grace how sweet the sound that saved a wretch like me, I once was lost but now I’m found was blind but now I see.”  When John Newton put the internal rhyme "amazing grace" together, it wasn't purely for poetic reasons. He understood grace to mean God's unmerited favor to lost souls. On May 10, 1748, when Newton was the captain of a ship that was caught in a violent storm, he experienced what he would later refer to as his "great deliverance." When all seemed lost and the ship would surely sink, he recorded this prayer in his journal, "Lord, have mercy upon us." At that point in his life God became everything to him. He had placed his physical and spiritual future in the Lord’s hands. Later, in his cabin, he reflected on what he had said and began to believe that God had addressed him through that turbulent storm and that grace had begun to work for him.

My own “turbulent journey” through life, unplanned pregnancy and subsequent spiritual renewal began when I was 18 and pregnant. I was terrified. I had been raised in a strong Catholic family so I knew that THIS could not be happening to ME!  I had been taught the truth about life being sacred.  I was part of a national right to life group. I had even sent in $5 to get a special bracelet, which proclaimed just how PROLIFE I was. But, like many women experiencing an unplanned pregnancy, I panicked! Many of you may remember those feelings: nowhere to run, nowhere to hide, nowhere to turn?  I wonder if in our unplanned pregnancy situations, we weren’t similar to Newton on that ship being tossed to and fro? Like him, we were searching for some sort of deliverance, some sort of rescue.

Unfortunately, in my case, I sought the wrong kind of deliverance from my pregnancy crisis. I allowed fear to drive my choices and I had the first of what would eventually be three abortions. I assumed, incorrectly, that each time I chose the deliverance of abortion, my life would be better.  That, my friends, was a lie. Three years later I was involved with o drugs and alcohol, broke, homeless and pregnant for the fourth time – an emotional disaster!  Again I started searching for “deliverance” via abortion. Thankfully, I “accidentally” called an adoption agency in my search for an abortion clinic. The woman on the phone had a sweet voice and offered me an option I had never considered before: adoption!  I am saddened today to think that at the time of my other pregnancies, selfishness and fear blinded me to the adoption option.

As I learned about the option of adoption I began to feel hopeful instead of afraid. For the first time I started to consider the “other” person in my crisis: my unborn child. The more I learned, the more I became filled with a sense of drive and purpose: I was on a mission to find a family for my son.  God allowed me to find that family and I chose to include them in my birth plan. In March of 1982, with his adoptive mother as my labor companion, my son was born! His adoptive mom cut the umbilical cord and together we cried and rejoiced that he was finally here. We named our son Nicholas William, after my father and his adoptive father. During my hospital stay, I spent time with Nick, saying hello to him in the special ways a mother does, letting him know I loved him, checking out his fingers and toes. As I spent time with him, I pondered the fact that God had allowed life to emerge from a place where death had previously reigned.

I knew I was choosing what was right for him, but leaving the hospital without him was the most difficult day of my life. There is a saying that reads: “Choosing to be a mother is like choosing to have your heart go walking around outside of your body.” Leaving the hospital that day felt like my heart would stop beating entirely. Over time, that deep grief has subsided.  One day I even remember thinking; “Wow, I have gone for a long time without thinking about Nick.”  It surprised me and made me feel a little guilty. But it also occurred to me that the reason I had stopped dwelling on my loss, was that I was truly at peace with my decision.  Someone once said, “You cannot dry-clean grief away, it must be washed away with tears.” When we love deeply, we grieve deeply. As a birth mother, I encourage you to give yourself permission to feel what you feel without apology. Allow the tears to flow so that healing can occur.

I wish I could say that after giving birth to my son, my life turned my life around completely, but I still had work to do. I had received deliverance during my pregnancy crisis through the wonderful option of adoption, but I still needed spiritual deliverance from my sin. Shortly after Nick’s birth, I met a man who I thought was cute, and started dating him. Well, God fooled me, because this man was a Christian, who began to minister the Gospel to me. He shared Romans 3:23 with me, which says, “All have sinned and come short of the glory of God.” I also read John 3:16: “God so loved the world that he gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” I soon began to see the truth about my life from God’s perspective: I was a sinner who needed to be rescued!  I finally yielded to the Lord’s leading and received Jesus as my personal Savior . . . and I married that cute guy!

Today, my greatest source of strength comes from Romans 8:1, which states, “There is no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.” God took the shipwreck of my life and began to change me from the inside out. He delivered my son from abortion because of the option of adoption, and he gave me the spiritual rescue I did not deserve. He reminds me periodically of Isaiah 1:18, which says, “Come now, and let us reason together, saith the Lord: though your sins are as scarlet, they shall be a white as snow: though they are red like crimson they shall be as white as wool.”  There had been plenty of scarlet in my life, but God, through His incredible mercy and his amazing grace, washed me white as snow.

I have seen how God’s truly amazing grace calms the storms of life and points us to the One who can deliver us. On those days when you don’t feel so courageous, those of you who have been delivered from sin through the grace and power of Jesus Christ can take comfort in the promise that God will never leave you nor forsake you. If you have not experienced spiritual deliverance in Jesus Christ and are assured of this wonderful promise, I pray that you will come to know the Lord in this wonderful and personal way.  If you are a post-abortive women and are in need of healing from that experience, check out my radio interview on Cradle My Heart with Kim Kotoa at:

When John Newton was on that ship and all seemed lost, he clung to the One Who meant everything to him. He trusted that God was able to keep him secure by his mercy and grace. In Jesus Christ, we can do the same.

#christmasmorninginapril

a half inch of ice + 5 inches of snow…
this is just what I could see from my own driveway. IMG_3100

IMG_3095IMG_3097

this one hit the side of the house, including the window (waking all 3 of us up! at 1:30am) but thankfully, the window did not break.

We have not lost electricity (yet), and are safe and warm…. I will remain thankful for that!

ice storm

this has been probably the weirdest couple of days In weather I have ever witnessed.

It looks like a tornado hit our town, and trees & branches are thrown everywhere.

I took this picture early this morning, and about half of the branches of the trees in the picture are now cracked off too.
IMG_3071Goodbye Lilac bush. (tear) It broke in 4 different directions.

IMG_3079

the culprit. a thick layer of ice on every. single. thing.

IMG_3072IMG_3075IMG_3080IMG_3081

should be really interesting by morning…when we add several inches of snow on top of that ice.

this pretty much sums it up:

{tell the} TRUTH tuesday

truthtuesday

We’re starting something new up in huuuur today.
welcome to : tell the TRUTH tuesday.

I’m talking about…
The good, the bad, the ugly.

If you are like me, you read a handful of blog everyday.

My favorite ones are not the blogs where every picture is perfect.
where every child is well groomed & smiling sweetly
where their house is brand new, huge, beautiful, clean & organized
where their husband adores them, and plans romantic weekends, and sends no reason flowers
where they cook organic, and whole wheat, and gluten free, and sugar free

…and we are left to feel “I will never be enough”. I’m failing.

Guess what?!?
God says, “ I love you exactly the way you are! You can’t do anything to make me love you more, or less. My love is not conditional on how much you do, or how well you do it.”

but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us .-Romans 5:8

I want to love other people like that. I want to be real, and honest, and messy…. and I want to tell you, you can too.
And God will LOVE you just the same. His love is perfect, in spite of the fact that we are not. {and never will be}

Isn’t that freeing? Isn’t it nice to say “I quit!” God YOU are enough for me. I don’t need all this stuff, or this worry, or this arguing, or this trying harder to do more.

I want to share the hard stuff. I want to tell life “how it is”, and leave it at that.
I believe with all my heart that God is most glorified through our struggles, and how God used them for His good. Because he ALWAYS does.

So come back on Tuesdays for a good dose of the truth.
… and the best part. GUEST bloggers.

I have a series of guest bloggers lined up who have stories to tell.
Stories that (at times) were not pretty.  They have had hard times…. and God was (and is) faithful to them in the midst of it.
I LOVE their hearts. I LOVE their honesty. I LOVE what God has done in them.

And some Tuesdays I’ll just post my own embarrassing truths… because God loves humor, and sometimes I do dumb stuff.
